Maybe It’s the Old Recording in Our Heads

Sometimes, what stops us is not the road in front of us, but an old recording that keeps playing in our heads.

“I already know this.”

“It’s because of someone else.”

“I can’t do it.”

“What will people think of me?”

“I’ll start when I’m ready.”

When we hear these thoughts often enough, they can begin to sound like facts. But perhaps they are simply old patterns. Like a familiar path we have walked so many times that our feet turn towards it without thinking.

When we fear failure, compare ourselves with others, make excuses, or hold back because of other people’s opinions, we do not always need to push those thoughts away. Sometimes, the first step is simply to notice them.

“I’m on this old path again.”

Awareness is not self-criticism.It is more like switching on a light at a crossroads. Once the light is on, we may notice that there are other paths too. Change does not always arrive as a dramatic decision. Sometimes it begins with one small pause:

Is this really true, or is it just a story I have heard so many times that I stopped questioning it?

The moment we stop following that voice automatically, choice returns to our hands.

Maybe It’s the Old Recording in Our Heads
