Clean Up Roys Peak

A little care, every week. ♻️⛰️

OOS founder Lois Hong spend much of her life travelling between the Southern Alps and the Himalayas, filming in the mountains and working on mountain clean-up projects. When she's in New Zealand, she lives near Wānaka, and Roys Peak is one of the places she often goes for a morning run or hike.

New Zealand’s mountains are usually incredibly clean, but over time, we began noticing more rubbish on Roys Peak than we expected. As one of Wānaka’s most popular hiking destinations, thousands of people come here to experience its beauty — and inevitably, little things get left behind.

So whenever Hong is based in Wānaka, we try to head up Roys Peak once a week with one simple purpose: Walk up. Pick up rubbish. Carry it down.

Now we’d like to open these weekly clean-ups to anyone who would like to join us. There is no fee, and no complicated commitment. Just get in touch with us beforehand to register, and we’ll let you know the day and time of the next clean-up hike.

OOS will provide rubbish pickers, gloves and clean-up equipment. You just need to bring yourself, wear suitable outdoor clothing and footwear, bring enough water and anything else you normally need for a mountain hike.

You don’t have to clean an entire mountain to make a difference. If we each care for a little, together we can change a lot.

Join The Next Clean-Up

Come walk with us. Meet some people. Spend some time in the mountains. Pick up what doesn’t belong. And leave Roys Peak a little cleaner than we found it.

Free to join · Everyone welcome · Wānaka, New Zealand
